Hyundai has successfully developed construction equipment with electric motors powered by batteries instead of an internal combustion engines that use fossil fuels. The lithium-ion battery used in these excavators is eco-friendly, as it produces no exhaust emissions when used as a power source, and is suitable for indoor work and urban construction sites, as it produces less noise than conventional engine-based excavators. Moreover, the use of lithium-ion batteries with high energy density has reduced energy consumption by more than 60% compared to conventional engine-based excavators based on the same operating performance. Hyundai plans to launch a mini battery-powered excavator in 2023 and gradually roll out small, medium-sized, and large excavators.
